We practice Shaolin Kung Fu, Sung Chuan (relaxed fist).  It is a broad style incorporating the fundamental elements of Chinese martial arts.  Students of Sung Chuan learn numerous techniques that provide them with the skills to defend themselves using strikes, locks, takedowns and common sense.

Traditional forms (sequences of movements) including animal forms like tiger, monkey and crane are taught and practiced.  Weapons such as the staff, broad sword and spear are also taught.  Students will practice the ancient breathing methods known as Chi Kung (energy work).  Chi Kung helps the practioner to cultivate his or her internal energy  and develop concentration.

Sung Chuan students are encouraged to use relaxation to maximise their power and speed.  The Internals in the traditional forms and techniques of the system manifest as the student learns to soften and let go of unnecessary physical tension.

Shaolin Sung Chuan owes its origins partly to the teachings of Shaolin Monk Seh Koh San, who became the Abbot of the Shaolin Siong Lim Temple in Singapore.  Cho Si Seh Koh San taught a style known as Fat Gar Kuen, (Buddhist Fist).  The students taught by Cho Si Seh Koh San belong to the second chamber 49th generation of Shaolin.  Amongst Seh Koh San's students was Master Quek Heng Choon who trained with him until his demise in 1960.  Master Quek then returned to Malaysia to continue teaching.  In 1967 he was joined by student Christopher Lai Khee Choong 2nd chamber 50th generation.  Sifu Lai brought a style known as Nam Pai Chuan to the UK in 1979.  Shaolin Sung Chuan has direct linage to the above styles and teachers.

Sung Chuan Kung Fu has embraced the internal aspects of Kung Fu, with Tai Chi Chuan playing an integral role in skill development.  We are a member of the Amateur Martial Art Association (AMA) in the UK.  Through the AMA we provide comprehensive insurance for all of our students and instructors.
